Pre-natal Massages

As someone who is rather pragmatic with my expenditure, I bought those trial prenatal massages vouchers at the few baby fairs Jeremy and I went to. 

I did my own research and most prenatal massages offered out there are at least SGD90. The trials offered at the baby fairs were priced at half the price at about SGD30-50. 

I am here to share with you my own experience of these pre-natal massages so that you wouldn’t have to go through this process of trial and error in the hopes of finding a good masseur during your own pregnancy. 

1. Babies and Bellies 

Location: 10 Sinaran Drive #04-39 - 44, Square 2. Singapore 307506. 

I did not exactly have a good experience here because I did not bring the trial voucher. Apparently, this shop still operates rather manually. Other masseur shops actually has my details including the trial voucher in their operating systems and it was easy to track the voucher that I purchased.  But for this particular shop, they do not have these details keyed into any system. In fact, I was denied to do the massage initially because I did not have the physical voucher and they were afraid I would reuse the voucher. I tried to explain to the counter staff and then the manager who I later learnt was the son of the boss that I could video call my helper where she could tear the voucher up on the spot. The son had some internal miscommunication and was rather rude to me at first till I exploded and just mentioned it’s ok it would be my first and final time visiting them. It was only after things became nasty that they finally softened and were kind enough to let me proceed. Then again, it’s my own fault for not bringing the voucher. So if you’re visiting this place on a trial basis, REMEMBER TO BRING THE VOUCHERS! 

The masseur assigned to me did not particularly knead my muscles in ways that help to relieve the tension in them so I wouldn’t rate them highly.

2. Madam Partum

Location: 192-196 Tanjong Katong Road. Singapore 436995. 

I like the fact that this masseur place is large enough to take in last minute bookings as my job unpredictable schedule means that I can only plan things last minute. 

I was greeted warmly at the reception. In fact, there is a place at the reception where you can just chill. There are tables and chairs at the area with a water dispenser that beckons people to sit and relax after the massage. 

Most masseurs there are from china and they have really good massage skills. I think it’s also because they follow the TCM style. I like the strength they have exerted on me during the massage. At least it doesn’t feel like they are just touching me but they are really massaging.

3. Schönemama

Location: Singapore Post Centre No.10 Eunos Rd 8, #02-116/117/118. Singapore 408600(East)

I came across this massage promotion on Instagram and signed up for it. The good thing about this is that it’s conveniently located near me. The not so good thing is that the masseur really has no strength. For someone like me who is used to the tui na type of massage before pregnancy, it’s very tough to enjoy massages which feels more like the masseur is just touching me.

4. Mums and Bumps 

Location: At my house 

This agency arranged for the massage therapist to go down to your place of convenience for the massage. It’s good because I do not have to step out of my house. 

The masseur does the massage on your own bed and hence it can be less enjoyable if you have a soft bed like me. The masseur will typically lay a few towels on the bed as a base to prevent the oil from sipping through but inevitably, the massive amount of oil used will still stain some parts of the bed. Strength exerted by the Malay therapist is not too bad. I think we have the idea that for Jamu massages, it’s the Malay’s area of expertise.

5. Beauty Mums and Babies 

Location: 290 Orchard Road Paragon #14 -11/12 Lobby F Tower 1, Paragon. Singapore 238859.

This beauty parlour is really atas and has two outlets in prime areas of Singapore. Mount Alvernia also gives vouchers that allows you to have 30 minutes free of foot reflexology with Beauty Mums and Babies if you sign up for their ladies card. I used the voucher given by Mount Alvernia and the trial voucher purchased at the baby fair which gives me a total of 90 minutes massage time. 

The reception area is rather small and hence we got chased away shortly after the massage ended as they needed the space for other customers.. understandably. 

The lady that did the massage for me was a local and she tried to educate me on various things with regards to childbirth while massaging me. Not sure if that was the regular practice but I guess the additional information shared were useful just that all I wanted to do was actually to close my eyes and sleep. 

Massage was a bit of the softer side but it did hit certain points of tension which helped to relieve the aches.
