Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill
Location: 313, Outram Road Tan Boon Liat Building, #02-01, 169073
Amidst rows of furniture retailers, at first look you wouldn’t expect a dainty food place to be housed at where Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill is – Tan Boon Liat Building.
Jeremy decided to be nice and offered to treat me to a good meal since I was dressed well that day in a failed attempt to film the Hakka cemetery at Holland Close for Funeral Fridays.
He decided on Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill since he was also craving for some good oysters. Going out with Jeremy, I don’t have to worry about the planning (thankfully since I suck at that). He always plans. Needless to say, he made the reservation for the place and that’s why we were seated down without having to wait for long.
The bar has two areas – an interior area which is air conditioned as well as alfresco area. When we first arrived, the alfresco area was already full while there were still some vacant tables inside.

We ordered the oysters of the day namely the Sunseeker and Tasmanian Pacific which are from Canada and Australia respectively. We were told that many would prefer the Tasmanian Pacific as it is meatier. However, Jeremy and I are more inclined to order the Sunseeker again as we find the Tasmanian Pacific too salty for our liking. Solid in color, the oysters were very fresh and I must say, could potentially be one of the best I’ve tasted so far in Singapore (context: I used to steer clear of oysters until I succumbed to peer pressure and tried them in the US when I was there on a job. The freshness and juiciness of the oysters there changed my mind about not liking oysters since then).
It is an irony that my favourite dish there is the Truffled Mac and Cheese and not the oysters given that they are famous for oysters. The mac and cheese is da bom! Unlike mac and cheese eaten elsewhere, the baked pasta was very evenly done. The sauce was thick and cheesy but not too much such that it becomes jelak. The panko crumbs on the top gave a crunchy texture to the creamy macaroni. The candied pork which is essentially ba gua was a surprising take on a western dish which turned out splendid. The hints of truffle taste in the dish is just enough for us to enjoy the dish without the truffle overpowering the other flavours of the dish.

We also ordered the NZ Jumbo Green Lip Mussels. The mussels were served with homemade baguette. The mussels were fresh and the portion was quite sufficient for two persons to share. However, I find it a little more to the salty side even when I dipped the bread in the sauce to eat.

We skipped dessert as we were meeting some friends to hang out after and going with too full a stomach could deter us from enjoying the shared time spent snacking and drinking together.
